Heirlooms and Legacies
I'm sure most of us would consider one or a few of our grandparents to be pretty important in our day to day lives. Many of my grandparents play a part in my life still to this day, and I hope they do for many many years to come.
I remember every Friday I would ride the bus to my great Aunt's house after school excited for our weekly routine of games, and memories that would last a life time. On Saturdays we would all get up and eat breakfast and most of the day would be spent visiting with my great grandma in the nursing home.
Like most I would have loved to go to her house to see her, but that wasn't an option anymore. she was getting sicker everyday and needed watched 24/7, which could be the reason she was never happy.
We called her "Granny Grump", as the name would state she was always a grump, or talking about old friends that did her wrong. Yes, I loved to visit her even though I had no idea who she talked about and didn't care that she was always complaining about something.
One of the only things I can remember her actually not complaining about was bingo, boy was she a great bingo player, she would always win a nick knack, or beaded necklace id receive the following weekend on our visit.
I had never really thought it was possible to loose my great grandmother as a young child. Nor, did I realize what an impact she had on my life until after the fact.
When she passed away I made sure to never loose anything I
had received from her, when someone passes on their belonging become more to the relatives of them. it wasn't that they didn't mean anything before she passed, but that they were the only thing besides memories that i had of her when she passed.
Along with all the beaded necklaces and nick knacks I had before she passed, I also received her quilt that laid at the end of her
bed for months,I'd use when I would read my AR books from elementry school to and with her.
So, in my opinion heirlooms are greatly important, most people have recieved them. For me though, when I look at them, I can place them along with many memories I had with her.
