The Cross Caffe is
located in Strasburg Ohio, not on Wooster Ave. but on the next street over. It
is a locally owned by the minister of a church in the area. The coffee shop advertises
itself as a safe place for kids and adults and offers space for both. The special
thing about this cafe is that all profits from sales are given to various
charities in 3rd world countries, specifically to creating Hope Boarding School
in Nicaragua. They also hold community events such as book reading and signings
with authors. The shop also has a bible study and is often used by small groups
from churches or schools.
I really like the concept of this coffee shop and in fact it's the
only one I know of that does what it does, and I would love to see more like
it. I greatly admire what they do and how they do it. The way they provide good
food and drinks and friendly, homey environment where people can socialize or have bible studies or something different. They provide a great place for the local community and by doing so help build and support communities around the world. I think this is very important because I feel as Americans being among
the most fortunate people in the world it is our responsibility to freely
choose to help those less fortunate either here or in other countries.
To learn what others think I talked to a resident of Strasburg and student here at Kent State Tusc. I find that what he said did an excellent job of summarizing everything great about
this place. This is what he said: “I think it's a really cool place because I can get
my daily coffee and support a good cause at the same time. I also feel I am
contributing to a place that is a good safe hangout for students from the
school as well as a place for bible studies and church service where people can
learn about God.”
Overall, I would say that there is a specific
purpose in mind for the shop and it does a really good job of accomplishing
them. The idea of this coffee shop as a nonprofit is something that is very uncommon
but something that if it happened much more frequently could only seem to make
things better I think.
