Nothing beats the feeling of a Friday night football game at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium.
Everyone in their red and black attire, ready to cheer till the very end of the night. Students, with so much hype and adrenaline, you'd think they were about to run a marathon. Little boys watching, their eyes glued to the field, as they wait for the Quakers to run out of the tunnel and wanting to be "one of them" so badly. This is a Friday night at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium.
Walking in, you immediately notice the beautiful field. The turf always so green and the red end zones with "Quakers" painted on them. The stadium is located in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Nestled at the foot of a hill with a fabulous small-town amusement park beside it. The name, Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium, is named after the great Woody Hayes, who coached for the The Ohio State Buckeyes. He also happened to coach for New Philadelphia in years past.
The stadium is filled with excitement before the games even begin. The smell of popcorn and the sound of "pump-up" music are something's you will definitely encounter as you walk in. 50/50 tickets being sold and cowbells being rung. While these are some beautiful aspects of the night, nothing beats when you finally hear THE pump-up song. The song that everyone knows. The song that even the opposing side can get excited for. This is when the Quakers are preparing to take the field. They march behind the home side of the bleachers in a very serious manner. You can only see them if you climb to the top of the bleachers and look down. It truly is a cool sight. Then, as the music becomes more intense, they walk through the gates and into the Quaker tunnel. The tunnel begins to shake as the music grows even more intense. The team is jumping and getting pumped up. All of the sudden, the Quaker fight song begins and here they come. They run and jump into a big huddle while everyone in the crowd is on their feet.
One of the greatest aspects of this stadium is the fans love for their home team. Win or lose, Quaker fans are proud of the young men on the field. They are proud of their school district. And, they are proud of their community. Friday nights at Woody Hayes Stadium bring this community together. It is something to appreciate.
