I went to Coulter’s Dog and Hunting Supply. They have been in business since 1969. It is a family owned business and owner (a son that got it from his parents) is 70 years old. They first started off selling dog food and now they sell a full line of traps, archery supplies, coon hunting lights, camouflage clothing, Carhartt clothing, work boots, hunting boots, dog remedies, dog food, dog collars and leashes, knives, ammunition, tracking collars, training collars. If they don’t have it in store then they will order it for you and have it for you in a week. It gives people work and while they work they get to test new products so they can give an honest opinion for that product. When I went in there I only expected to look around, find some bibs, and get out but I was there for an hour. I found the bibs I wanted fast thanks to the very attentive staff and then we stood around and talked for the rest of the time I was there.
I asked about the business and if he liked working there and the obvious answer was yes. After he answered my question we started talking about everything under the sun. He asked me about college and my major, I asked him about the longbows hanging up, he asked if I had a dog and I said yes, that I had a beagle. Then we started talking about my beagle and if he’s a good hunter and such. After that conversation I mentioned the for sale sign that was by their sign. He said that they were trying to sell the place because they’re getting to old to run it. They hope they find someone who wants to keep it the way it is, but if they can’t find anyone then they’ll sell all their merchandise and then sell the building. I was sad to hear that because it has been a family run business for such a long time.
